Love Poetry
Love poetry? I love reading, but if I had to make a choice, I'd forego almost any kind of reading in favour of love poems.
Look for a book called 'The 100 Best Love Poems of All Times' by Leslie Pockell! It's a perfect companion to read alone or share with that special person in your life. Makes a great gift too...
I hope you'll find the time to relax with me into these enhanting poems of love. Open up - and let your feelings flow.
Life is Poetry
There is true beauty in allowing yourself to be vulnerable to words that touch your soul.
This is what @Yojinbo had to say about poetry:
'There are as many / Poets as there are People: / Life is poetry. #haiku'
I fully agree.
The Best Love Poems
The great love poets such as e.e. cummings know how to challenge and delight us with the psychological insight, sorrow, joy and overall brilliance in their love poetry, yet the best love poems' splendour is hidden in their exquisite simplicity. Consider this:
'Let us remember...that in the end we go to poetry for one reason, so that we might more fully inhabit our lives and the world in which we live them, and that if we more fully inhabit these things, we will be less apt to destroy both. -Christian Wiman
Personal Favorites
It is difficult to make a selection of the best love poems, because there are so many poems of love -classical and modern -that touch my heart. As @JormaJyrkkanen recently posted on Twitter:
'In the heart of loves lost, in the souls of yearning fools and whimsical dreamers, there be poems a plenty, aching and burning.
This is one of my favorite love poems; a moment of pure happiness captured on the printed page:
Moment
We went out. The pale sun shone,
tinny music tinkled softly
from a car, two jays
studied us, humans,
threads of longing dangled in the air...
This moment, mortal as you or I
was full of boundless, senseless
silly joy, as if it knew
something we didn't.
-Adam Zagajewski

And then of course, there is this passion:
i carry your heart with me (i carry it in
my heart) i am never without it (anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)
i fear
no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) i want
no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you
here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart
i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)
- e.e. cummings
