Beautiful Love Stories: Love at First Sentence

Do you have a favorite author, or a favorite love story that you can happily read over and over again? Personally I really enjoy Anita Shreve's books. She has a wonderful way of drawing me in from the very first sentence.

Here are some irresistible opening lines from some of my favorite romantic love stories:

'Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Lo-lee-ta: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth. Lo. Lee. Ta.

She was Lo, plain Lo, in the morning, standing four feet ten in one sock. She was Dolly at school. She was Dolores on the dotted line. But in my arms she was always Lolita.'

Beautiful love stories are often both passionate and destructive, as the one that unfolds here:

'In the time it takes for her to walk from the bathhouse at the seawall of Fortune's Rocks, where she has left her boots and has discreetly pulled off her stockings, to the waterline along which the sea continually licks the pink and silver sand, she learns about desire.
