Mother Love: Looking Back
by JuJu
(Princeton)
Reader Post: 'Where did the time go? It seems like just a few short years ago you were lying in my arms and I was rocking you to sleep. Look at you now, not quite grown up, but almost there.
I remember when you were born. You were sent straight from heaven. I loved taking care of you, holding you close to my face to accept those wet, little kisses and snuggling up together. I would read you book after book and at the end of each book you would look at me with those big, brown eyes and say, "More, Mommy?" How could I refuse? You became a great lover of reading and writing because of it, I think.
We had great tea parties together with imaginary friends of yours. I was having the time of my life living through your world. A kind and thoughtful little boy you were also concerned with other people's feelings. I had hoped you would be sensitive to others.
When you were a little older you would ask to go outside after it rained to see the worms crawling around in the driveway. You were very careful not to step on them. You would crouch down and stare at the worms wiggling around. I was right down there with you.
Basketball became huge in your life. You lived, eat and slept basketball. We played basketball games in the driveway with your friends. I loved having them here. This house was "the house". I brought you and your friends drinks and snacks during those games.
I so miss those days. They were lazy, fun and carefree.
You have brought so much sun to my life. You are the reason that I go on each day. I love you so my darling child. You came to me once and said, "I would not be anything if it was not for you, Mom" All that I could say is, "wow" to that. That is huge to a mother. I wanted to grab you and hold you tight and tell you how much you are loved.
We learned together, we laughed together and we had the time of our lives. I love you forever, my child. You are my blessing from above and will always be in my heart.'
