Love vs. Infatuation
by Anonymous
When trying to define love, it is necessary to keep those things that can be considered ‘pretenders’ to the mantle of love out of the equation. Probably the most infamous of the pretenders would be the emotion of infatuation.
While infatuation may seem like love on the surface, it really is not. Rather, it is a superficial emotion that mimics the true sense and aura of actual love. That is why it can be so confusing and, ultimately, so frustrating.
Infatuation basically entails liking someone a lot based on your external impressions of them. From this, infatuation can grow into a preoccupation until it burns out.
In rare cases, infatuation can turn into an obsession which is most definitely not a positive scenario. Thankfully, most cases of infatuation are brief crushes that disappear over time.
Because infatuation is superficial, it is not meant to last. Love, on the other hand, is something that is deep, meaningful, and grows offer time as opposed to being diminished. Because of this it becomes an emotionally powerful feeling that takes complete hold of an individual. This is certainly a good thing when you meet someone that is worth spending the rest of your life with.
