Love Poetry: you, in june.
by Katie
(Scottsdale, Arizona)
'a lock of hair spills haphazardly over my shoulder blade and rests on my bare arm, curling around a nearby freckle and poising to wander off at any given moment.
i watch it. curiously. absentmindedly.
my gaze is stolen by the sun creeping in through the slats in the blinds, teasing with impending summertime.
warmth and swimming trunks and dripping locks of hair, hiding me from the world as i flop onto a towel and breathe contentment back into the earth
but now i am here, on the other side of the teasing sun.
i wiggle my toes impatiently behind my shiny desk, picking absently at the chipped polish on my thumbnails.
green. blue. yellow. mango. depending on the mood.
my focus drifts again as my silent phone lights up beneath a pile of papers.
rustle. slide. click.
you.
in 160 characters.
you.
the lock of hair slides off my arm as i lean over my cellular, a smile threatening to stretch my lips open wide.
i contemplate your words.
i contemplate mine.
i send it all your way.
settle back in my chair, a little more ready for my task list.
the sun winks at me as i lose myself in my work
summertime distractions tuck themselves away into a corner.
waiting. deliciously.
blurring the space between us.'
