Love Poetry: Together in Twilight
by Ryan Griffin
(Red Lion, Pa)
'I was forged out of darkness
And she was born out of light,
So she lives in day,
And I live in night...
Destined to fight,
And always to verse
It's our only purpose,
And part of our curse...
But who knew one day,
When we'd meet in battle,
That we would fall for each other,
Or want to live in the shadows.
I never knew love,
'Til I met this angel..,
And I never knew fear,
'Til I caused her danger.
I wish you could see us,
And the way that we fought,
It was always so beautiful
Like a dance being taught.
We truly were equals,
And always fought with our best,
Never giving an inch,
And of course always to death...
But after our battles,
When she'd leave my sight,
I always hoped deep inside,
That she was alright.
See, we are who we are,
There's no one to blame,
We each were created,
To play our part in this game.
We both have our jobs,
And we do them with pride,
But that doesn't mean
It doesn't kill us inside.
We fight for our masters,
In day and in night,
But live for the moment,
Between darkness and light...
For when the sun sets,
In the absence of light,
We embrace one another,
In those few seconds of twilight.
I know that one day,
One side will eventually win,
Then we can drop these charades,
And be together again...
Until that day comes,
Though we'll continue to fight,
We will always forever,
Be together in twilight...'
