Love Poetry: The Proposal
by Danielle Jolly-Corbin
(Wyoming, Delaware, USA)
'Over the door there was a sign
not for any eyes, but mine.
In a stupor I stood to ponder
my thoughts that began to wander.
The script was familiarly written
by a man with whom I’m quite smitten.
Directions read go through the door,
turn left when reaching the marble floor.
Up the stairs red and velvety
where my one true love waits for me.
Dressed to the nines in a vanilla cream suit,
wearing woodsy cologne and his best smile to boot.
Seven little words were how he greeted me,
“My darling love, will you marry me?”
Joyfully saying, “Yes,” with tears in my eyes,
he heartily picked me up and began to cry.
In this glorious hotel in a land far, far away,
I couldn’t have pictured a more perfect day.'
