Love Poetry: The Hermaphrodite
by Lucas George

'The Girdle of Venus
Encircles us
There is no rust
In her copper embrace
It curls, entwines,
Ouroboros
The snake it eats its tail
So if we meet
An alchemist
We'll show to him
Our copper rings
He'll laugh and wink
And he'll tell us
Life can be spent on many things
He lifts a veil, the tale blooms
He reveals the flowered path to walk
He reveals to him a mouth that talks
That only speaks in poetry
Hermes saw skies in terror forms
Her soothing voice, her savage calm
Her wisdom come from far beyond
Her body carved from rose quartz stones
She placed a finger on his arm
She then excised this world's alarm
He had forgotten truth so long
That they are one
The moon and sun
A maze of roses
Red and white
You ask me will we make it
I tell you that there is no night
There is no place that has no light
I take your hand and you take mine
We share our cup of hallowed wine
We reach the place of molten gold
We hope that its not fleeting
The alchemist he sings his song
It begins with sounds so sacred
They cannot help but sing along
Words known because they wrote them
Gold flows in rivers down their face
And with these words they blissful wake
Up with the birds on wings they take
To higher realms and higher
His hand becoming one with hers
The golden mean has played its role
And they realise they built it all
With these bricks they had built a wall
And now we build our palace
To Monsalvat I have marched and marched
To plunge my sword in to your cup
To drink of the wisdom of your heart
To fill these holes with holiness
The alchemist sings his joyous song
His tempo grows, it wont be long
Till oneness overtakes all fear
And all the world is golden bliss
Till we can roam the world so wide
With garlands for the weak and strong
To make that tender savage lunge out from this girdle
Through the endless portal stars
And to the painted realms beyond
The Girdle of Venus
Encircles us
There is no rust
In her copper embrace
It curls, entwines,
Ouroboros
The snake it eats its tail
And if we meet an alchemist
He'll smile and nod
At our gold rings
He'll laugh and wink and he'll tell us
Lives like ours are holy things'
