Love Poetry: My Girlfriend, the Pyro
by Ryan Griffin
(Red Lion, Pa)
'My girlfriend's a freak
Though you'd never know,
She's almost all normal,
Except when alone.
See, my girlfriend's a pyro,
She's in love with fire.
And when she's alone,
She gives into desire.
I can tell she's in love
By the look in her eyes
As she stares at the flame
Like she's mesmerized.
Is her love for the flame,
Even greater than me?
I think it's a shame
That I have to compete.
But for my babygirl,
I'd do anything,
I'd dance with the flames
Or through the fire, I'd sing.
But her attention's been waning,
I think she needs more.
Perhaps more commitment
Or a bonfire's called for.
Last week for her birthday
My present was arson
We watched on the news
As a building burned down.
And this year for Christmas
For my babygirl,
Though she'll just let it burn
I'll give her the world.'
