Love Poetry: Longing
by Nellissa Samasstasa Debora
(Jakarta Selatan, DKI Jakarta, Indonesia)
'Listening to "Vanilla Twilight"
Brings back that feeling;
The feeling of longing,
My longing for being close to you.
To feel, not imagine or hear about
Your very presence in the room.
To hear the sound of your footsteps,
Your deep soothing voice
As you speak.
To see the fog you make in the cold,
Your sparkling eyes as they
Sneak a peek at me from time to time.
To smell the aroma of your cologne,
Which I find sickening when I do smell it,
But I miss it when you're not around.
I miss that warmth and excitement
In my heart when we're together
In the same room,
Even when it means being with other people.
The restless debates in my head
Of whether or not to start a conversation
With you and what to say when you start
A one-to-one chat with me.
I admit that I constantly watch you,
Your sneaking a peek at me,
Your leaning the wheeled chair
A bit too far back,
Your slumping and sitting straight on the chair,
From the corner of my eye,
And giggle; but only I can hear that giggle.'
