Love Poetry: Bottled Heart
by Jennifer Underwood
(Elizabethtown, KY USA)
'Bottled up feelings. . . I can't release,
Harsh words . . . that shouldn't have been uttered,
Tears I made you cry. . due to my fears,
Angry moments . . . that shouldn't have happened.
I should have seen
But I was blind.
I should have cared
But I didn't dare.
Apologies I should have told you
But I wasn't that bold.
I was too young,
Too stubborn,
Too selfish,
Too demanding,
Too very proud,
To see that you were
the mirror of my soul.
That your sapphire blue eyes
Were where I needed to turn
That your love was the one among all
I needed to embrace.
Now my heart's corked up in this bottle.
With my emotions bubbling up
Like a geyser ready to explode,
Waiting for you to remove the lid
So my love can flee to you--
the Reflection of my Soul.'
