Love Poetry: A Fiery Love
by Sara Zavorka

'The flames leapt, the metal burned,
Screams of agony from within the vehicle were heard.
A woman was trapped; she was helpless and scared,
The Jaws of Life soon came, and its teeth were bared.
An ambulance had pulled up just in time,
Along with a fire truck, both of which sped fast past the limit of fifty-five.
The woman was finally safe, and kneeled exasperatedly on the ground,
She looked up in shock as a particular fireman’s voice had emitted a sound.
It was her husband, who had pulled up to the wreck,
She held him close, and shakily embraced his neck.
Their family car was doomed, but she was at least alright,
He had to reassure her of that before the flames he would have to fight.
He then left soon, but returned a short while later without a doubt,
He searched for his wife, tears welling a flood from his eyes that acted as a full-blast spout.
She was found moaning, being loaded onto a bed and into the ambulance,
She looked so peaceful, as if in a trance.
He massaged her hand, and her eyes opened wide,
She smiled, and he too was about to hop in for a ride.
The doctors were fine with it, so were husband and wife,
But alas, he was summoned, for had arisen yet another strife.
A fire burns in the middle of town,
Come on chief, we’ve got to go down!
A family obligation to his wife,
Debated his job’s duty to go save yet another life.
He could not think, it was too much to bear,
He gently kissed his wife, and raced over without fear.
She knew his duty; after all, her life was already safe,
Now it was up to her husband to save others, if it were their fate.
The house was burning, flames leaping higher towards the sky,
All were out of the building, except for one little boy’s cry.
The man was kind, and out of the goodness of his heart,
Decided to find the boy, even if it meant tearing the burning house apart.
He had done this a number of times before, usually with great success,
Nothing could stop him now; nothing would ever make him care less.
He always wanted to help others, for as long as he could remember,
It was his sole purpose in life, this he was sure.
His wife, meanwhile, lie in the hospital bed all alone,
Faith in her husband, she was attempting to hone.
No thought in her mind lingered that tragedy might strike her family soon,
For unknowingly, her husband had traversed into his own fiery doom.

He had used a water hose, never tried to fight fire with fire,
But a point must come at time when all must lie down and expire.
He was a good man, pure at heart, wanted to add on to the family,
Priority first though, he made sure to lead others to safety.
From me I wish he never had to part,
I loved this man with all of my heart.
His wife had spoken the eulogy,
Healing burns on the outside compared little to the hurt felt within,
For her heart had been emptied, was once filled with love,
By one who now resides up above.'
