Finding Love on the Internet

Is finding love on the Internet possible? Ask my friend, Kim. After years of heartache, she just about gave up on love, only to find her soulmate online.

Internet Love

Internet Love At the ripe old age of 36, Kim had just about given up on love. Stuck in an emotionally abusive relationship for a decade, it was hard to even imagine simple happiness. When she finally left after one too many of her husband's alcoholic rages, she resigned herself to raising her two young children on her own.

Social media soon became a refuge and a source of fun. She started following writers and poets on Twitter, re-tweeted the best of their micropoetry and lines of prose, and made a few genuine good friends. One person in particular intrigued her. All she knew about him was that he lived in Canada, specialised in writing haiku, and that he wrote lines that genuinely resonated with her.

One day she received a private message from him, thanking her for her re-tweets of his work. They started messaging back and forth, which led to regular phone calls and a gradual shift from friendship to love affair.

The last time we chatted, the soon-to-be-engaged Kim told me that she felt a genuine soul connection with her poet from Canada. Whenever they talked, the miles between them just fell away. They had no doubt that they were meant for each other and were excitedly planning a future together.

Kim's story made me marvel at the opportunities that technology afford us in today's world. Who could imagine a genuine soulmate at the other end of the world - and the gift of getting to know them and maybe even make a life with them? It goes to show how love transcends all boundaries of time and space - and that happiness is possible when you open your heart to the possibility of romance.

So, if you're lonely, don't give up on love. Finding love on the Internet may not be for everyone, but romance is everywhere. If you believe it and open yourself to it, you'll never know where you may find it!
