Being in Love: Shot to the Heart!

Reader Post: Being in love blessed me with the greatest memories of my life. I met David at a dinner hosted by a mutual friend, Robert - I didn't think it was a 'fix up' but just that he was there, as I was, to celebrate Robert's birthday. We got along well and exchanged numbers to arrange a drink together the following week.
I had only one boyfriend before David - a disappointment in all areas and a financial nightmare. When I arrived to meet David he did a fake 'shoot' with his thumb and forefinger. He later said that when he saw me come into sight that was what he felt inside - a shot to the heart!
We moved in together, shared a mortgage, a cat, a beautiful life - we just loved being in love! We both had well paid jobs and took blissful five star vacations. Life was heavenly, we were David and Nick, the golden couple in our gay circle. Then David became ill - his last partner had cheated, unknown to him, and sadly the worst thing that could happen did happen and David, ten years on, died in my arms. I still remember the good times, feel despondent every April 4th, the day he died, and am forever grateful for that 'gun' being fired all those years ago.
I don't know if being in love will ever be on my life path again... but I do hope so!
